WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT GEORGETOWN?
Part of an ongoing series on ingredients served at U.S. Colleges and Universities
Updated April 2026
There are several places available for students and faculty to dine on the Georgetown University campus >> the menus here are used as an information source for this review:
Similar to other higher learning institutions such as Stanford University, Georgetown University On-campus Dining includes some offerings which are Closest To Homemade — the ingredients used are closest to those we might use at home to make this item from scratch — but the majority of offerings are Far From Homemade and include many commercial items we would never use at home.
THE NOT-SO-GOOD NEWS: Seen below, the seemingly simple Kaiser Roll at Georgetown University contains multiple commercial ingredients Not In Kitchen™ and eight ingredients banned at Whole Foods including multiple chemical preservatives.
SALAD DRESSING: Something as easy-to-make-from-scratch as Italian Dressing at Georgetown contains 7 ingredients which Whole Foods cite as “Unacceptable in food” including 2 Artificial Colors, 2 Chemical Flavor Enhancers and 3 Chemical Preservatives. There are also several other ingredients which are Not In Kitchen when making homemade Salad Dressing such as Caramel Color, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Maltodextrin, commercial Natural Flavor and possibly Soybean Oil (the use of “and/or” makes it impossible to know which oil(s) are used).
Seen below, here’s what’s in the Grilled Cheese and Tomato, Chicken Pot Pie and Italian Lentil Salad:
Also available on campus at Georgetown is, among other outside vendors, Chick-fil-A >> following is what’s in a Chick-fil-A Chicken Deluxe Sandwich:
