SPAM was introduced in the U.S. in 1937 by Hormel and today there are 11 varieties:
CLASSIC SPAM: Here’s what’s in a can of Classic SPAM >> Pork with Ham, Salt, Water, Modified Potato Starch, Sugar and Sodium Nitrite. SPAM is banned at Whole Foods Market for Sodium Nitrite — an FDA-recognized Chemical Preservative — an ingredient which Whole Foods cites as “Unacceptable in food”.
